When i got interested in esport i even tried looking at starcraft Pro games to see what all the rage was about, and it was just too ugly to look at. compare the original starcraft to RA2, and its not even close. Im the kind of guy who enjoys a replaying old RTS games once in a while, like red alert 2, age of empire 2, supreme commander etc.īefore sc remastered i had never played the first starcraft, because quite honestly, the graphics sucked even back then. If that doesn't bother you, it's worth it because no other game will feel like this one. This game is easy to learn but really, really, REALLY hard to execute. I can't say I fully disagree with that perspective, but it's also super hard to play competitive games because it's just not new player friendly. Positioning your army to make sure no one gets left behind is for many players a more fun kind of micro than dodging disrupter shots or resting your whole engage on how well your EMPs hit. Some folks look back and appreciate that because it allows for a higher skill ceiling and makes fights feel more engaging and tactical. You can't select too many things, workers don't auto mine, pathing is atrocious, etc. Highly recommend.īut it is an old game, and it does make the game harder just by removing all quality of life features. It's so, so much better than the SC2 campaign in almost every way. Including BW, SC1 had really fun, awesome campaigns that also had a great and compelling story. I'm also going to recommend playing the campaigns. My advice is usually to try downloading the free version and play against the computer or with friends to get a better idea of whether upgrading to Remastered would be worth the money. So expect to lose a lot before you start winning matches. And the spells are especially powerful.Īs far as competitive play goes, it takes a lot practice and there aren't that many new and casual players on the ladder. It's very well balanced despite not getting any gameplay changes since 2001. Some people prefer it that way as oppose to the "deathballs" of Starcraft II and the limit to control also give it more comeback potential as the bigger your army is, the harder it is to control. And with the limited pathfinding you have to put a lot more effort into controlling your units. You can only select up to 12 units or 1 structure at a time. It can certainly be frustrating to control your units in the original game. Aside from the new graphics, Remastered also gives you access to the matchmaking on the competitive ladder. You can also play custom matches for free. I'd definitely recommend the campaigns, although you can do those for free without the Remastered upgrade. r/wow /r/diablo /r/hearthstone /r/heroesofthestorm /r/overwatch Same- and similar-topic submissions that exceed 4 per top 25 Promotional submissions that exceed "2 per 1 per 1"ĭuplicate results posts for the same individual match will be removed. What might come as a bit of a surprise, however, is that it will only cost $15 - a far cry from the usual price AAA remasters tend to go for. If all of this has gotten you a bit nostalgic and you're now itching to give StarCraft another spin, you'll be glad to hear that StarCraft: Remastered will be arriving later today (August 14th). Since a lot of this is focused around the visuals and the presentation, allow me to show you what exactly StarCraft: Remastered is all about through one of the recently posted developer videos. Perhaps most importantly of all, StarCraft: Remastered will not be changing any of the original's gameplay elements, so everything from Mutalisk stacking to downright insane Dragoon AI will remain just as they are. Once it arrives it will bring with it 4k graphics and support for modern resolutions, 1080p cinematics, proper keybinding support, as well as improved online matchmaking and ladder systems. StarCraft: Remastered, as you would expect from the name alone, is a complete overhaul of one of the most influential games of all time - StarCraft: Brood War.
